It is 1963, Detroit is bidding to host the 1968 Olympic Games and a new energy is sweeping through the Detroit Civil Rights Movement. This is the story of their collision.
Luke Tripp is part of this documentary, recounting his role in protesting Detroit’s bid to host the World Olympics. As a student at Wayne State University in 1963, he was the chair of UHURU, which was formed in March 1962 with his comrades who were students at Wayne State University, Detroit Michigan. Their mission was to engage in direct action against racism.
The Documentary by Aaron Schillinger, Stefan Szymanski, and Silke-Maria Weineck, premiered in July 2024 at the University of Michigan’s Center of Race & Ethnicity in Sports, the Arts Initiative, and the Detroit Center.
