My Artistic Values

  • Authenticity

I value promoting social justice change by using my art to deal with difficult and uncomfortable subjects and to address current situations from an anti-racist, critical analysis lens.

  • Courage

As I enter the 7th decade of my existence, my writings, poetry and lyrical memoirs act as a healing salve for me to rise above the pain of loss – the loss of a breast through cancer, the loss of unborn babies through miscarriages, and the loss of loved ones as one ages. My art helps me cope with grief, stories bring me comfort, that overcoming of hurt, that quiet joy in the darkness.

  • Humility

I value humility and vulnerability in the sharing of my stories, drawn from myriad experiences that span the globe, especially from an overlooked perspective that is often marginalized. I hope my work enriches my readers as much as I too learn from their experiences, especially Southeast Asian women, and encourage them as we change the rare occurrences of our stories.
